More Mummy, More: Classic British Tea Cake

Would you look at this gorgeous cake? And to think that every time I looked at in in Nigella Lawson's How to be a Domestic Goddess, I thought of it as a naked cake and would contemplate baking it and then turn to something else.

My friend H. made it, as the dessert portion of the second annual Teacher Appreciation Tea and it turned out to be a most fitting addition to our spread. She even made a second one for us to share after school, causing her youngest daughter, N., to cry for more, having inhaled her portion instantaneously.

It is a rather plain, comforting cake and the freshly whipped cream and raspberries dressed it up perfectly.
